Greenridge Holiday Toy Drive

Greenridge held its Holiday Toy Drive on Saturday, December 17, 2022.  This year, we partnered with the Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) for our Holiday Toy Drive.  Every year, ACS hosts a Holiday House event that supports homeless, formerly homeless, and low-income parents by empowering them to shop for free at the Atlanta Children’s Shelter. Their goal is to alleviate the financial burden of holiday shopping while providing families with holiday cheer.  ACS requested that Greenridge residents focus on providing gifts for their teenage demographic, as they are extremely low in this area.  On December 19, 2022, we delivered the contributions to ACS.  They were extremely grateful for the donations from members of our community, and they look forward to our partnership in the future.

Thank you for your support during our Holiday Toy Drive and your contributions were greatly appreciated!

Fall/Winter Lawncare

Here are the latest seasonal Lawn care tips for all the Do-it-yourselfers in Greenridge:

Great time to lay down new sod if needed
Adjust your PPH levels in your lawn – IDEAL pH RANGE: 5.5- 6.5
Still a good time to overseed with ryegrass
It’s always a good time to spot spray to kill broad-leafed plants like chickweed, wild violet, dandelion, wild onion, etc

REMINDER: Mark your calendars to apply your spring pre-emergent in Late February and/or the month of March to prevent crabgrass, goosegrass, and other summer weed seeds from sprouting.

Greenridge 2021 Illumination Celebration

When: November 20th at 6 pm

Where: Greenridge Neighborhood Entrance

The Greenridge Social Committee with the support of our Greenridge HOA Board of Directors will be hosting our holiday lighting event this Saturday.

In the spirit of giving, we will be blessing others with the gift of a Thanksgiving meal. Feel free to bring your donations in the form of canned goods, packaged items, and gift cards. We will be collecting these items during our Illumination Celebration and distributing them shortly thereafter.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Time to apply fertilizer on your lawn

Most people apply a dose of lawn fertilizer in the spring, followed by one or two more applications during the growing season. If you are going to fertilize your lawn, do not do it too early in the season. The best time for that first application is late spring, just as the green grass is growing eagerly. In early spring, the grass is putting energy into root development. If you apply fertilizer too early, it will divert the plant’s energy into leaf development too soon.

When mowing your lawn or if using a lawn service, bag your clippings until the grass is green. This will aid in clearing up as many weeds and weed seeds as you can. After the grass is green, start mulching your lawn. Experts say that throughout the season, this technique provides a lawn with as much nitrogen as one complete application of lawn fertilizer. This will help your lawn to stay healthy and green.

Two weeks after your first lawn feeding (fertilization), aerate your lawn with a core or a good spike aerator.

Barbacoa tacos

Recipe:

salt to taste
black pepper to taste
1 tbsp oil
4 tsp ground cumin
3 tbsp minced garlic or 4 garlic cloves
1 small lime squeezed about 3-4 tbsps
1 tbsp chicken bullion or 1 1/2 cup chicken broth
1 tbsp beef bullion or 1 1/2 cup beef broth
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1 medium onion
3 cups of water
2-4 chipotle chiles in adobo sauce (add the desired amount)
2 1/2 tsp dried oregano
corn tortillas or hard, your preference
cilantro chopped
onions diced

Season beef with salt and black pepper on both sides.
Add oil to a hot dutch oven before adding the beef.
Allow the beef to sear and brown on both sides.

To the water add chicken bullion, beef bullion, cumin, garlic, oregano, apple cider, lime, juice, and chipotle peppers and combine. (Optional add ingredients to a food processor)

Add the marinade to the seared beef along with sliced onions.
Cover with the lid and place the dutch oven in the oven.
Check on the barbocoa at least every half hour to make sure the liquid hasn’t dried out of the pot. In any instance be sure to add water or broth if necessary.

Allow the meat to cook and become fork-tender before serving.

To serve, place place barbacoa on corn tortilla, add diced onions and cilantro
have some red or green chilli sauce as a condamint and serve.

Enjoy!
